Description
Both the producers of “Lusia salad GPO” and those adhering to the “Consortium for the garlic PGI” are testing the launch of specific single-dose package in the market: the new packaging is now under first commercialization and producers are waiting for market reply. The single dose package has been created to answer to consumers’ and large distribution needs in terms of “small quantity portions” (for singles) and ready to use products.
The packages include a single head of salad and n. 3 heads of garlic.
Why is interesting
The capacity of meeting market (consumers’) needs by promoting new packaging is a simple but efficient innovation. If the innovative packaging succeeds (with main reference to the first case), new strategies of production will be need: certainly, the production of processed products (VI and V range) requires the realization of the processing stage from the row material. This processing stage could be carried out according to two ways: first one, by staring up a new productive line within the producer’ firm; second one, by engaging specific supply contracts with food processors enterprises. In both cases a radical change not only in the enterprise business but also in the position of the same firm within the supply chain is necessary, opening the way to new paradigms of production.
